Global Climate Strike

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

Martin Luther King

What is the Global Climate Strike?

(Excerpted from the original strike announcement...)

"We, children and students, don’t feel like we have a choice: it’s been years of talking, countless negotiations, empty deals on climate change, fossil fuel companies being given free rides to drill beneath our soils and burn away our futures for their profit.

Politicians have known about climate change for decades. They have willingly handed over their responsibility for our future to profiteers whose search for quick cash threatens our very existence.

So this is our invitation to you.

Starting on Friday 20 September we will kick start a

week of climate action with worldwide strikes for the climate."

What's happening in Vermont on Sept 20th?

Kids will be leading rallies across the state. You'll be glad you joined them.

The main event will be in Burlington.

City Hall  12-2PM

Are you a health care provider?

Please wear your white coat or scrubs. We need to send the message that

medical professionals are highly concerned. If you haven't already, start to learn more by heading to the CDC website on Climate and Health.

Whether you can make it on the 20th or not, you can write a letter or an e-mail to Governor Scott, Senate Pro Tem Ashe and Speaker Johnson.

The message being this -- "Scientists are saying we have about 12 years to address climate change, and to protect our kids and our communities. Vermont's greenhouse gas emissions have risen by 16% since 1990. It is time to for Vermont to start passing legislation commensurate to the challenge."

And ... who is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg is an extremely talented and gutsy 16-year activist who has been

nominated for the Nobel Prize for her work on climate change. She has spoken at

gatherings of the most powerful politicians and business people on the planet.

She speaks truth to power.
